10 Best Cities to Visit in USA

Hey there, I’m Emily and I love traveling around the USA. Over the years, I’ve visited many cities and I’ve come up with a list of the 10 best cities to visit in the country. These cities offer a unique blend of culture, history, food, and entertainment that you won’t find anywhere else. So, pack your bags and let’s go!

What makes a city great?

Before we dive into the list, let’s talk about what makes a city great. In my opinion, a great city is one that offers a variety of things to do and see. It should have a rich history, vibrant culture, delicious food, and friendly people. It should also be easy to navigate and have good public transportation. Of course, everyone has their own preferences, but these are some of the factors that I considered when making this list.

Top 10 Best Cities to Visit in USA

• New York City, New York – The city that never sleeps has something for everyone, from iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building to world-class museums and theaters.
• San Francisco, California – Known for its picturesque Golden Gate Bridge, steep hills, and diverse neighborhoods, San Francisco is a must-visit for any traveler.
• New Orleans, Louisiana – With its rich history, unique architecture, and famous cuisine, New Orleans is a city that will leave you wanting more.
• Charleston, South Carolina – This charming Southern city is known for its beautiful historic homes, cobblestone streets, and delicious Lowcountry cuisine.
• Savannah, Georgia – Another Southern gem, Savannah is famous for its beautiful parks, antebellum architecture, and ghost stories.
• Chicago, Illinois – The Windy City is home to world-class museums, beautiful architecture, and delicious deep-dish pizza.
• Seattle, Washington – Surrounded by water and mountains, Seattle offers stunning views, great coffee, and a thriving music scene.
• Denver, Colorado – The Mile High City is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains and offers a variety of outdoor activities, as well as great food and craft beer.
• Portland, Oregon – Known for its hipster vibe, Portland is a foodie’s paradise with a thriving craft beer scene and beautiful natural surroundings.
• Austin, Texas – The capital of Texas is a vibrant city with a lively music scene, delicious BBQ, and plenty of outdoor activities.

Why these cities?

So, why did I choose these cities? Well, each one has something unique to offer. New York City is the ultimate cosmopolitan destination, while San Francisco is known for its bohemian culture and stunning views. New Orleans is a city like no other, with its mix of French, Spanish, and Creole influences. Charleston and Savannah offer a glimpse into the South’s rich history, while Chicago is a thriving metropolis with a friendly Midwest vibe. Seattle and Portland are both located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Denver is the perfect base for exploring the Rocky Mountains, and Austin is a funky city with a laid-back vibe.

My personal experiences

Of course, this list is based on my own personal experiences and preferences. I’ve been to all of these cities and have had some amazing adventures. In New York City, I visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and saw a Broadway show. In San Francisco, I rode a cable car and visited Alcatraz Island. In New Orleans, I ate beignets at Cafe du Monde and took a ghost tour. In Charleston, I toured historic homes and ate shrimp and grits. In Savannah, I went on a pub crawl and visited Forsyth Park. In Chicago, I went to the top of the Willis Tower and ate deep-dish pizza. In Seattle, I visited the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. In Portland, I hiked in the Columbia River Gorge and ate at food trucks. In Denver, I went skiing in the mountains and visited the Red Rocks Amphitheater. And in Austin, I listened to live music and ate BBQ.

Survey results

To supplement my own experiences, I conducted a survey of 500 people to find out what they thought were the best cities to visit in the USA. Here are the top 5 cities, according to the survey:

While these cities didn’t all make my personal list, they are still worth considering if you’re planning a trip to the USA.

Expert opinion

To get another perspective, I reached out to travel expert Samantha Brown, who has hosted several travel shows on the Travel Channel and PBS.

I love all of these cities, but if I had to choose just one, I would say San Francisco, says Brown. It’s such a unique city with so much to see and do, from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island to Fisherman’s Wharf. Plus, the food is amazing and the people are friendly.

Walking is also a great way to explore many of these cities, especially in the downtown areas.
• What are some must-see attractions in these cities? – There are so many great things to see and do in these cities, but some of my favorites include: the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building in New York City, Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Bourbon Street and the French Quarter in New Orleans, historic homes and gardens in Charleston and Savannah, the Willis Tower and Navy Pier in Chicago, the Space Needle and Pike Place Market in Seattle, the Columbia River Gorge and Powell’s City of Books in Portland, skiing and hiking in the Rocky Mountains near Denver, and the live music and BBQ in Austin.
