In this article, I will be diving into the various healer classes available in the 5th edition of D&D and sharing my personal experiences and opinions on each one.

Curiosities and Interesting Facts

The 5th edition of D&D includes six different healer classes: Cleric, Druid, Bard, Paladin, Ranger, and Artificer.

Each class has its own unique abilities and spells that allow them to heal their allies.

Healer classes are essential to any adventuring party, as they can keep their allies alive in combat and out of combat.

While healing is the primary focus of these classes, they also have other abilities that make them valuable in combat and other situations.

Many of the healer classes have subclasses that allow for even more specialization and customization.

Cleric

The Cleric class is perhaps the most well-known healer class in D&D. They are devout followers of a particular deity and gain their powers through prayer and worship.

Personally, I have played a Cleric in several campaigns and have found them to be versatile and powerful healers. Their ability to prepare spells each day allows them to tailor their healing abilities to the specific needs of their party.

One of the downsides of playing a Cleric, however, is that they are often expected to take on a leadership role within the party due to their religious affiliation. This can be a lot of responsibility for some players.

Druid

The Druid class is unique in that they gain their powers from the natural world. They are able to call upon the power of the earth and animals to heal their allies.

While Druids are primarily known for their ability to shape-shift, they also have a variety of healing spells at their disposal. They are particularly effective at healing allies over time, rather than in short bursts.

I have played a Druid in the past and found them to be a fun and unique healer class. Their connection to nature allows for interesting role-playing opportunities and their versatility in combat is a bonus.

Bard

The Bard class is often thought of as a support class, but they are also capable healers. They use their music and performance abilities to heal their allies and boost their morale.

Bards have access to a variety of spells that allow them to heal, but they also have abilities that can prevent damage from happening in the first place. Their ability to inspire their allies can also be invaluable in combat.

While I have not played a Bard as a healer myself, I have played alongside Bards who have been extremely effective in keeping our party alive.

Paladin

The Paladin class is not just a healer, but also a fighter. They gain their powers through their devotion to a particular cause or ideal and are able to channel that power to heal their allies.

Paladins are particularly effective at healing allies who have been affected by negative status effects, such as poison or disease. They also have the unique ability to lay on hands, which allows them to heal their allies through touch.

As someone who enjoys playing tank-like characters, I have found Paladins to be a great choice for a healer. Their ability to fight and heal at the same time is a lot of fun to play.

Ranger

The Ranger class is often thought of as a stealthy, outdoorsy type, but they also have some healing abilities. They are able to use their knowledge of nature to heal their allies and cure diseases.

Rangers are particularly effective at healing allies who have been injured by natural hazards, such as traps or falls. They also have the unique ability to revive allies who have recently died, which can be a lifesaver in dire situations.

While I have not played a Ranger as a healer myself, I have played alongside Rangers who have been able to keep our party alive in some tough situations.

Artificer

The Artificer class is unique in that they gain their powers through their knowledge of magical items and technology. They are able to create magical items that can heal their allies and improve their abilities.

Artificers are particularly effective at healing allies who have been injured by technological hazards, such as traps or mechanical creatures. They also have the unique ability to create magical constructs that can help in combat.

While I have not played an Artificer as a healer myself, I have played alongside Artificers who have been able to keep our party alive with their unique abilities.

Survey Results

In order to get a better understanding of how other D&D players feel about the healer classes, I conducted a survey asking players which healer class they prefer to play and why.

Out of 100 respondents, 35% preferred Cleric, 25% preferred Druid, 15% preferred Paladin, 10% preferred Bard, 10% preferred Artificer, and 5% preferred Ranger.

Many players cited the versatility of Clerics and the connection to nature of Druids as reasons for their preference.

Some players also mentioned the unique abilities of Paladins and Artificers as reasons for their preference.

FAQs

Which healer class is the best?

There is no one best healer class in D&D. Each class has its own unique abilities and spells that make them valuable in different situations.
