With the recent pandemic, it has become more important than ever. However, with the increasing popularity of online education, it is essential to understand the social classes that exist within the online education system. In this article, we will explore Wright\u2019s Modification of Marx\u2019s Model of Social Classes and try to answer the question of who is at the top of this model when it comes to online education.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_Wrights_Modification_of_Marxs_Model_of_Social_Classes\"><\/span>What is Wright\u2019s Modification of Marx\u2019s Model of Social Classes?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Erik Olin Wright, a sociologist, modified Marx\u2019s model of social classes in the 1970s to better reflect the changes in the capitalist system. According to Wright, social classes are determined by an individual\u2019s relationship to the means of production, and there are three main classes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The capitalist class, who own and control the means of production<\/li>\n<li>The working class, who do not own the means of production and have to sell their labor to survive<\/li>\n<li>The petty bourgeoisie, who own small businesses and may or may not employ others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wright\u2019s modification added two additional classes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The managerial class, who manage and supervise workers<\/li>\n<li>The technical expert class, who possess specialized knowledge and skills that are necessary for the functioning of the capitalist system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_is_at_the_top_of_Wrights_Modification_of_Marxs_Model_of_Social_Classes_in_Online_Education\"><\/span>Who is at the top of Wright\u2019s Modification of Marx\u2019s Model of Social Classes in Online Education?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Now that we understand Wright\u2019s Modification of Marx\u2019s Model of Social Classes, let\u2019s explore who is at the top of this model in online education. According to a survey conducted by Babson Survey Group, there are two main types of institutions that offer online education:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public institutions<\/li>\n<li>Private institutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The survey found that private institutions have a higher percentage of online enrollments than public institutions. Furthermore, private institutions have a higher percentage of graduate-level online enrollments than public institutions. This suggests that the managerial and technical expert classes are more prevalent in private institutions.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is important to note that there are exceptions to this trend. In my experience, private institutions tend to attract students who are already part of the managerial and technical expert classes. These students are often looking to advance their careers or gain specialized knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, public institutions tend to attract a more diverse range of students, including those who are part of the working class.
