In this article, I will explore the two main social classes of ancient Rome, the patricians and the&#8230;<\/p>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_were_the_patricians_and_plebeians\"><\/span>What were the patricians and plebeians?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The patricians were the wealthy and powerful upper class of ancient Rome. They were the elite members of society and held most of the political power. They were born into their position and inherited their wealth and status. The plebeians, on the other hand, were the common people of Rome. They were farmers, artisans, and traders who made up the vast majority of the population. They had very little political power and were often oppressed by the patricians.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_did_one_become_a_patrician\"><\/span>How did one become a patrician?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Patrician status was determined by birth. If you were born into a patrician family, you were automatically a patrician. There was no way to become a patrician if you were not born into it. This created a rigid social hierarchy that was difficult to break out of.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_did_the_plebeians_do_to_gain_more_power\"><\/span>What did the plebeians do to gain more power?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The plebeians were not content with their lack of political power and began to organize and demand more rights. They went on strike and refused to work, which put pressure on the patricians to make changes.
