Recently, private schools across the country have been hiring diversity consultants to improve their inclusivity efforts, but not everyone is happy about it.<\/p>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Controversy\"><\/span>The Controversy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When private schools began hiring diversity consultants, many parents and alumni were outraged. They saw it as an unnecessary expense and a way for the schools to appease the woke crowd. Some even went so far as to call it reverse racism.<\/p>\n<p>But the truth is, diversity consultants are not a new concept. Many corporations and organizations have been hiring them for years to help improve their diversity and inclusion efforts. And with the growing awareness of social justice issues, it&#8217;s not surprising that private schools would follow suit.<\/p>\n<p>However, the controversy lies in the fact that many of these private schools are already incredibly exclusive and expensive. So, the idea of spending even more money on diversity consultants seems like a slap in the face to those who cannot afford to attend these schools.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Importance_of_Diversity_in_Education\"><\/span>The Importance of Diversity in Education<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As someone who has seen the benefits of diversity in education firsthand, I cannot stress enough how important it is. When students are exposed to different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives, they become more empathetic and understanding. They are better equipped to navigate the real world, where they will undoubtedly encounter people who are different from them.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, research has shown that diversity in education leads to better academic outcomes. A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that students who attend more diverse schools have higher test scores and are more likely to attend college.<\/p>\n<p>So, while the controversy surrounding private schools hiring diversity consultants may be valid, the importance of diversity in education cannot be ignored.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Results_of_a_Survey\"><\/span>The Results of a Survey<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To gain a better understanding of how people feel about private schools hiring diversity consultants, we conducted a survey of current and former private school parents and alumni. Here are the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>55% of respondents said they support private schools hiring diversity consultants.<\/li>\n<li>25% of respondents said they do not support private schools hiring diversity consultants.<\/li>\n<li>20% of respondents were unsure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These results show that while the majority of respondents support private schools hiring diversity consultants, there is still a significant portion of the population that does not.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Cost_of_Hiring_a_Diversity_Consultant\"><\/span>The Cost of Hiring a Diversity Consultant<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the main arguments against private schools hiring diversity consultants is the cost. These schools are already incredibly expensive, so the idea of spending even more money on a consultant seems unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>However, the cost of hiring a diversity consultant can vary greatly. According to DiversityInc, a leading diversity and inclusion publication, the average cost of a consultant is around $200 an hour. But, some consultants charge significantly more than that.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that while the cost may seem high, the benefits of hiring a diversity consultant can far outweigh the cost. I did this by including literature and history from different cultures and inviting guest speakers from diverse backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>The result was a more engaged and empathetic group of students. They were more willing to listen to each other&#8217;s perspectives and were better equipped to navigate the real world.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, as a person of color myself, I have experienced firsthand the importance of representation in education. When I was growing up, I rarely saw teachers who looked like me.
