Minority students are often underrepresented and undervalued in these areas, which is why the National Science Foundation (NSF) has made a commitment to promoting racial equity in STEM education. In this article, we will explore the progress that has been made and the challenges that still exist.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curiosities_and_Interesting_Facts\"><\/span>Curiosities and Interesting Facts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Minority students make up only 20% of the STEM workforce, despite making up more than 50% of the overall population.<\/li>\n<li>Black and Hispanic students are more likely to attend schools with fewer resources for STEM education.<\/li>\n<li>The NSF has invested over $100 million in programs focused on promoting diversity in STEM fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Survey_Results\"><\/span>Survey Results<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A recent survey conducted by the NSF found that 67% of STEM faculty members believe that diversity is important for the success of their field. However, only 40% of these faculty members actively recruit and retain minority students.
