After years of teaching, I did some research and found some interesting facts and opinions on the matter. In this article, I will share my findings and personal experiences to answer this question.<\/p>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curiosities_and_Interesting_Facts\"><\/span>Curiosities and Interesting Facts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day and commemorated the end of World War I on November 11, 1918.<\/li>\n<li>In 1954, President Eisenhower changed the name to Veterans Day to honor all veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.<\/li>\n<li>The federal holiday is observed on November 11, but not all states require schools to close on that day.<\/li>\n<li>Many schools choose to hold special events and activities on Veterans Day to honor veterans and educate students about their sacrifices.<\/li>\n<li>Some people argue that schools should be closed to allow families to participate in Veterans Day events and ceremonies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Survey_Results_and_Data_Analysis\"><\/span>Survey Results and Data Analysis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A survey conducted by the National Association of Secondary School Principals found that only 27% of high schools close on Veterans Day. The majority of schools that remain open hold special events or assemblies to honor veterans and educate students about their service.<\/p>\n<p>Another study by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs found that only 28% of Americans know the true meaning of Veterans Day. I prefer to hold special activities and events in school rather than closing for the day.<\/p>\n<p>However, I understand that some families may want to participate in Veterans Day events outside of school.
