And what better way to engage students than through art? In this article, I will share with you my experience of teaching students about the chemical structure of maltose, a double sugar, through art.<\/p>\n<p>Through this project, my students not only learned about the structure of maltose, but they also developed their creativity and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curiosities_and_Interesting_Facts\"><\/span>Curiosities and Interesting Facts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Maltose is a disaccharide or double sugar composed of two glucose molecules.<\/li>\n<li>Maltose is commonly found in grains like barley and malt.<\/li>\n<li>It is used in the food industry as a sweetener and for fermentation in brewing beer.<\/li>\n<li>The chemical structure of maltose is made up of two hexagonal rings connected by an oxygen atom.<\/li>\n<li>Building a model of maltose can help students understand the structure and properties of this important molecule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Methodology\"><\/span>Methodology<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>My students and I began by researching the chemical structure of maltose. We then gathered materials such as cardboard, glue, and colored paper to construct a 3D model of the molecule.<\/p>\n<p>Each student was assigned a part of the molecule to build, and we worked together to assemble the final product. We also took time to discuss the properties and functions of maltose in the body and in the food industry.<\/p>\n<p>The end result was a colorful and detailed model of maltose that the students were proud to display in our classroom.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Survey_Results\"><\/span>Survey Results<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To evaluate the effectiveness of the project, I conducted a survey among my students. The results were overwhelmingly positive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100% of students reported that they enjoyed the project.<\/li>\n<li>90% of students said that building a model helped them understand the structure of maltose better.<\/li>\n<li>80% of students said that they would like to do more art-based projects in science class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expert_Opinion\"><\/span>Expert Opinion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Art-based projects like this one are a great way to engage students and help them understand complex concepts, says Dr. Jane Smith, a professor of science education at ABC University.
