But nothing quite compares to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our education system. While schools have had to adjust to remote learning and hybrid models, substitute teachers have also been affected by these changes.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I will explore the ways in which online education has changed the substitute teaching landscape. While subs were once called in to cover in-person classes, they are now being asked to lead virtual classrooms and provide support to students at home. Here are just a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Greater flexibility in scheduling and location<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to work with students from all over the country (or even the world)<\/li>\n<li>Access to a wider range of teaching resources and technology<\/li>\n<li>Increased demand for qualified substitutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expert_Opinions_and_Data_Analysis\"><\/span>Expert Opinions and Data Analysis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to a recent survey of substitute teachers conducted by the National Substitute Teachers Alliance, 65% of respondents reported feeling unprepared to lead virtual classrooms. Additionally, 70% reported feeling isolated and disconnected from their colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>However, experts in the field of education are optimistic about the opportunities presented by online education. In a recent article for Education Week, education consultant and former teacher Jill Berkowicz wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The pandemic has created a new world of teaching and learning that we could never have imagined.
