many years of experience in the USA, I have seen the debate over the Pledge of Allegiance in schools come up time and time again. Some argue that it is a necessary part of American culture and patriotism, while others believe it goes against freedom of speech and can be exclusionary to certain groups of people.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_Pledge_of_Allegiance\"><\/span>What is the Pledge of Allegiance?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Pledge of Allegiance is a statement of loyalty to the United States of America. It was first written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy, and has since been revised several times. The current version, which includes the phrase under God, was adopted by Congress in 1954.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Which_States_Require_the_Pledge_of_Allegiance\"><\/span>Which States Require the Pledge of Allegiance?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Currently, 43 out of 50 states have laws requiring schools to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
