Unfortunately, this problem is not limited to public schools. Elite international schools have a racism problem that needs to be addressed.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_extent_of_the_problem\"><\/span>What is the extent of the problem?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A recent survey conducted by the National Association of Independent Schools found that 64% of students of color feel that they have experienced racial discrimination at school. This is a shocking statistic that cannot be ignored.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_do_elite_international_schools_have_a_racism_problem\"><\/span>Why do elite international schools have a racism problem?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many of these schools have historically been dominated by wealthy, white families. As a result, they may not have the same level of diversity and inclusion training as public schools. This means providing ongoing training for staff and students, as well as creating a culture that values and celebrates diversity. It also means addressing incidents of racism when they occur, and holding students and staff accountable for their actions.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, schools need to take a hard look at their admissions policies and ensure that they are not perpetuating systemic racism. As a person of color, I have been subjected to microaggressions and discrimination from both students and colleagues. It is a painful experience that has made me more determined than ever to create inclusive learning environments.<\/p>\n<p>One incident that stands out in my mind is when a student told me that they didn&#8217;t think I was qualified to teach because of my race.
