However, with the current pandemic, some people are quick to dismiss remote learning as inferior to traditional in-person learning. I am here to tell you that this is simply not true. In this article, I will share with you my experiences and thoughts on why remote learning should not be killed.

Black and Brown Students Benefit from Remote Learning

One of the biggest advantages of remote learning is that it can provide more opportunities for Black and Brown students. In traditional classrooms, these students are often overlooked, but remote learning allows them to participate fully and equally. According to a survey conducted by the National Education Association, 62% of teachers reported that their Black and Brown students were more engaged in remote learning than in-person learning.

Shorter Classes Can Be More Effective

Another advantage of remote learning is the ability to have shorter, more focused classes. In traditional classrooms, teachers often have to spend time managing behavior and other distractions, which can take away from valuable class time. With remote learning, teachers can create shorter classes that are more effective and engaging. Studies have shown that students are able to retain information better when classes are shorter and more focused.

Remote Learning Can Be More Affordable

Remote learning can also be more affordable for both students and schools. Traditional in-person learning requires expensive resources such as textbooks, classroom supplies, and transportation. With remote learning, these costs can be significantly reduced. In fact, a study by the University of Pennsylvania found that remote learning can save students up to $19,000 per year in college tuition and fees.

My Personal Experience with Remote Teaching

As an educator, I have had the opportunity to teach both in-person and remotely. I have found that remote teaching can be just as effective, if not more so, than traditional in-person teaching. In fact, during the pandemic, I was able to connect with my students in new and meaningful ways through remote learning. I was able to provide more one-on-one support and feedback, which helped my students to succeed.

FAQs

Q: Is remote learning as effective as traditional in-person learning?

A: Yes, remote learning can be just as effective, if not more so, than traditional in-person learning.
