They need a classroom environment that is tailored to their specific needs, and that can be difficult to achieve in a traditional classroom setting. A self-contained classroom provides a safe and supportive environment where students can learn at their own pace and receive the individualized attention they need.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setting_Up_the_Classroom\"><\/span>Setting Up the Classroom<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When setting up a self-contained special education classroom, there are a few key factors to keep in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flexible Seating Arrangements: Students should have the option to choose their own seating arrangement based on their individual needs.<\/li>\n<li>Sensory Tools: Providing sensory tools like fidget toys, noise-cancelling headphones, and weighted blankets can help students stay calm and focused.<\/li>\n<li>Visual Aids: Using visual aids like picture schedules, behavior charts, and social stories can help students understand expectations and stay on task.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Benefits_of_a_Self-Contained_Classroom\"><\/span>The Benefits of a Self-Contained Classroom<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Studies have shown that self-contained classrooms can significantly improve academic outcomes for students with special needs.
