However, Chris Ricks&#8217; Non Verbal Learning Disorder (NVLD) was something new to me. In this article, I will be sharing my experiences and research on NVLD and how it affects online education.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_Non_Verbal_Learning_Disorder\"><\/span>What is Non Verbal Learning Disorder?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Non Verbal Learning Disorder is a neurological condition that affects the development of nonverbal skills such as visual-spatial abilities, social skills, and motor skills. Individuals with NVLD may have difficulty understanding nonverbal cues, interpreting facial expressions, and body language.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Does_NVLD_Affect_Online_Education\"><\/span>How Does NVLD Affect Online Education?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Online education has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, for students with NVLD, online education can be challenging. Since online classes rely heavily on nonverbal communication, students with NVLD may struggle to understand the material presented in class, participate in discussions, and interact with their peers and instructors.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Studies_and_Data_Analysis\"><\/span>Studies and Data Analysis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A study conducted by the University of South Carolina found that students with NVLD had lower academic achievement and lower overall satisfaction with online courses compared to students without NVLD.<\/p>\n<p>Another study conducted by the University of Toronto found that students with NVLD had difficulty with online learning due to their difficulty with visual-spatial skills and problem-solving.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First-Person_Experiences\"><\/span>First-Person Experiences<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One student with NVLD shared their experience with online education:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In online classes, I often feel lost and confused. I struggle to keep up with the pace of the class and feel like I&#8217;m not understanding the material. It&#8217;s frustrating because I know I&#8217;m capable of learning, but the format of online classes just doesn&#8217;t work for me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expert_Opinions\"><\/span>Expert Opinions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to Dr. John M. Davis, a clinical psychologist and expert on NVLD, Online education can be particularly challenging for students with NVLD. They may struggle with the visual-spatial demands of online classes and have difficulty understanding nonverbal cues.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Examples_and_Anecdotes\"><\/span>Examples and Anecdotes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One instructor shared their experience teaching a student with NVLD in an online class:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I had a student with NVLD in one of my online classes. They struggled with understanding the material and participating in class discussions.
