So, let&#8217;s dive in!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curiosities_and_Interesting_Facts_About_Online_Learning\"><\/span>Curiosities and Interesting Facts About Online Learning<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Online learning has been around since the 1990s.<\/li>\n<li>As of 2023, over 6 million students were enrolled in online courses in the United States.<\/li>\n<li>Online learning can be asynchronous (self-paced) or synchronous (live instruction).<\/li>\n<li>Many universities and colleges offer online degrees and certificates.<\/li>\n<li>Online learning can be more cost-effective for both students and institutions.<\/li>\n<li>Online learning can benefit students who have disabilities or live in remote areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_No_Significant_Difference_Myth\"><\/span>The No Significant Difference Myth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most commonly referenced studies in the debate about online learning effectiveness is the 1999 study by Thomas Russell, The No Significant Difference Phenomenon. In this study, Russell looked at 355 research studies comparing online and in-person instruction and found that there was no significant difference in learning outcomes. While this study has been used to support the effectiveness of online learning, it is important to note that it only looked at a narrow set of variables and did not account for the quality of instruction or the learning experience.
