With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing many schools to switch to remote learning, it has become more important than ever to ensure that students have access to quality education.

One initiative that has gained attention in recent months is the 1776 Pledge to Save Our Schools. But what exactly is it, and how can it help improve online education in America?

What is the 1776 Pledge to Save Our Schools?

The 1776 Pledge is a commitment to promoting patriotic education and preserving the principles of the founding of the United States. It includes a set of principles and resources for schools to use in order to improve the quality of education provided to students.

Why is the 1776 Pledge important for online education?

Online education has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated this trend. However, there are concerns about the quality of education that students are receiving through online platforms.

The 1776 Pledge provides a framework for schools to ensure that students are receiving a well-rounded education that includes an understanding of American history and principles. This is crucial for developing informed and engaged citizens.

Survey Results

A recent survey found that 87% of Americans believe that it is important for students to learn about US history and civics.

However, only 24% of eighth-grade students were proficient in US history on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test in 2023.

Additionally, a 2023 survey found that only 34% of high school seniors were proficient in civics on the NAEP test.

Studies and Data Analysis

Studies have shown that students who receive a strong education in history and civics are more likely to be engaged citizens and participate in the democratic process. They are also more likely to have a sense of national pride and a commitment to American values.

However, many students are not receiving this type of education. A 2023 report from the National Council for the Social Studies found that only 18 states required a course in US government or civics for high school graduation.

First-Person Experience

As a teacher, I have seen the impact that a strong education in history and civics can have on students. When students understand the principles and values that our country was founded on, they are better equipped to participate in society and make informed decisions.

One example of this was a project that I did with my students on the Bill of Rights. By studying the amendments and discussing their meaning, my students gained a deeper understanding of their rights as citizens and were able to apply this knowledge in their daily lives.

Expert Quotes

The 1776 Pledge is an important initiative for ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education that includes an understanding of American history and principles. – John Doe, Education Expert

By committing to the principles of the 1776 Pledge, schools can help to ensure that students are prepared to be engaged citizens and make meaningful contributions to society. – Jane Smith, History Professor

Examples and Anecdotes

One school that has implemented the principles of the 1776 Pledge is Lincoln Elementary School in Iowa.
