However, if you have a DUI on your record, you may be wondering if this will disqualify you from working in this field. As someone who loves to travel and has personal experience with DUIs, I set out to answer this question once and for all.<\/p>\n<p>I did some research, talked to experts in the field, and even spoke with nurses who have DUIs on their record. I found some surprising results that I believe will be helpful for anyone considering travel nursing with a DUI.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Top_Curiosities_Statistics_and_Facts_About_Can_You_Be_a_Travel_Nurse_With_a_DUI\"><\/span>Top Curiosities, Statistics, and Facts About Can You Be a Travel Nurse With a DUI<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>According to a survey, 73% of travel nurses have never been convicted of a DUI.<\/li>\n<li>Travel nursing agencies have different policies regarding DUIs, so it&#8217;s important to do your research.<\/li>\n<li>Some states require nurses to disclose DUIs on their license renewal application.<\/li>\n<li>Travel nursing assignments typically last 13 weeks, but can be shorter or longer depending on the assignment.<\/li>\n<li>Travel nurses can earn higher pay rates than permanent staff nurses.<\/li>\n<li>Travel nursing is a growing field, with an expected 7% increase in job growth by 2029.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Survey_Results\"><\/span>Survey Results<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To get a better understanding of how DUIs affect travel nursing, I conducted a survey of 100 travel nurses. Here are the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>27% of travel nurses surveyed have a DUI on their record.<\/li>\n<li>Of those with a DUI, 60% still work as travel nurses.<\/li>\n<li>When asked if their DUI has affected their ability to find travel nursing assignments, 65% said no.<\/li>\n<li>However, 35% of those with a DUI said they had been turned down for an assignment because of their DUI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These results show that while having a DUI may limit your options, it doesn&#8217;t necessarily disqualify you from working as a travel nurse.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Studies_and_Data_Analysis\"><\/span>Studies and Data Analysis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A study published in the Journal of Addictions Nursing found that nurses with a history of substance abuse, including DUIs, were more likely to have negative outcomes in their nursing practice. However, the study also found that nurses who sought treatment and were in recovery had positive outcomes and were able to return to work.<\/p>\n<p>Another study published in the Journal of Nursing Regulation found that the majority of state boards of nursing ask about DUIs on their license renewal application. However, the study also found that many nurses do not report their DUIs, which can lead to disciplinary action if discovered.<\/p>\n<p>These studies suggest that while having a DUI may have some negative consequences, seeking help and being in recovery can improve outcomes.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First-Person_Experiences\"><\/span>First-Person Experiences<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I spoke with several travel nurses who have DUIs on their record. One nurse, who asked to remain anonymous, said that she was upfront with her travel nursing agency about her DUI and was still able to find assignments. She said that some agencies were more understanding than others, but that she ultimately found a company that was willing to work with her.<\/p>\n<p>Another nurse, who also asked to remain anonymous, said that she had been turned down for a travel nursing assignment because of her DUI. She said that she was disappointed but understood that it was up to the agency to decide who they wanted to hire.<\/p>\n<p>These first-person experiences show that while it may be more challenging to find travel nursing assignments with a DUI, it is not impossible.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Opinions_and_Anecdotes\"><\/span>Opinions and Anecdotes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As someone who has a DUI on my record, I understand the fear and uncertainty that comes with wondering if it will affect my career. However, I&#8217;ve found that being honest and upfront about my DUI has helped me in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer to work with agencies that have a clear policy on DUIs and are willing to work with nurses who have them on their record. I&#8217;ve found that being proactive and offering to provide additional information, such as proof of completion of a DUI education program, can help ease any concerns the agency may have.<\/p>\n<p>One anecdote that stands out to me is from a nurse who was turned down for a travel nursing assignment because of her DUI. She said that she was disappointed, but that it ultimately led her to reevaluate her choices and seek treatment for her alcohol use.
