Reason #1: High Taxes

One of the main reasons why my family and I left Florida was because of the high taxes. We found ourselves paying more and more each year, and it was just unsustainable for us. We did some research and found that Florida has a state income tax of 0%, which is great, but they make up for it in other ways. Property taxes, sales taxes, and other fees can really add up.

Reason #2: Crowded Beaches

Florida is known for its beautiful beaches, but they are often overcrowded and not very relaxing. It can be difficult to find a spot to lay your towel, and the noise and commotion can be overwhelming. We prefer quieter, more secluded beaches where we can really unwind and enjoy the scenery.

Reason #3: Hurricanes

Living in Florida means being in the path of hurricanes. We experienced a few close calls during our time there, and it was always very stressful. The threat of losing our home and belongings was too much to handle, and we decided it wasn’t worth the risk.

Florida has some of the worst traffic in the country. It can take hours to get anywhere, even if it’s just a few miles away. We found ourselves spending way too much time in the car, and it was affecting our quality of life.

The humidity in Florida is no joke. It’s hot and sticky all year round, and it can be very uncomfortable. We found ourselves constantly sweating and feeling gross, and it was just not a pleasant way to live.

Reason #6: Bugs

Florida is home to all kinds of creepy-crawlies, from palmetto bugs to mosquitoes. We were constantly battling bugs in our home and yard, and it was just too much to handle. We prefer a bug-free environment where we can relax and enjoy our surroundings.

Florida doesn’t really have seasons. It’s hot and sunny all year round, which can get boring after a while. We missed the changing of the leaves in the fall, the snow in the winter, and the blooming flowers in the spring.

Florida has a higher crime rate than many other states. We didn’t feel safe in some areas, and we didn’t want to raise our children in an environment where crime was a constant concern.

The education system in Florida is not great. Our children were attending public schools, and we were not happy with the quality of education they were receiving. We wanted to give our children the best possible education, and we didn’t feel like that was possible in Florida.
