Additionally, we&#8217;re exposed to images of beautiful people and luxurious lifestyles in the media, which reinforces the idea that these things are important.<\/p>\n<p>As for our obsession with death, it&#8217;s partly due to our fear of mortality. When we hear about someone who has died, it makes us confront our own mortality and the idea that we too will one day cease to exist. We also tend to idealize people who have died, especially if they died young or tragically. When I was younger, I was often teased for being nerdy and awkward. But once I became successful in my career, suddenly people were more interested in talking to me and being my friend. It was a strange feeling, like my worth as a person had suddenly increased just because I was earning a good salary.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also noticed how differently the media treats the deaths of celebrities compared to ordinary people. When a celebrity dies, it&#8217;s all over the news and people mourn for weeks or even months. But when an ordinary person dies, it might not even make the local news.
