In this article, I will be discussing the components of high quality CPR and why they are important to know.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curiosities_Top_Statistics_Facts_and_Interesting_Information\"><\/span>Curiosities, Top Statistics, Facts, and Interesting Information<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Each year, more than 350,000 people in the United States experience sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting.<\/li>\n<li>Only about 10% of people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest outside of the hospital survive.<\/li>\n<li>High quality CPR can double or even triple a person&#8217;s chance of survival from cardiac arrest.<\/li>\n<li>The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that CPR be performed to a depth of at least 2 inches (5 cm) for adults.<\/li>\n<li>The AHA also recommends performing CPR at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Components_of_High_Quality_CPR\"><\/span>Components of High Quality CPR<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are several components of high quality CPR, which include:<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Early_Recognition_and_Activation_of_the_Emergency_Response_System\"><\/span>1. This means recognizing the signs of cardiac arrest and immediately calling 911 or your local emergency number. The sooner the emergency response system is activated, the sooner help can arrive.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Chest_Compressions\"><\/span>2. Chest Compressions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Chest compressions are a crucial component of high quality CPR. They help keep blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs. When performing chest compressions, it&#8217;s important to follow the AHA&#8217;s recommended depth and rate.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Airway_Management\"><\/span>3. Airway Management<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Airway management involves opening the person&#8217;s airway and ensuring that it remains open during CPR. This can be done by tilting the person&#8217;s head back and lifting their chin. If the person is not breathing on their own, rescue breathing may also be necessary.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Breathing\"><\/span>4. If the person is not breathing on their own, rescue breathing may be necessary.
