So, I did some research, talked to experts, and even had a personal experience that led me to write this article.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Top_Statistics_and_Facts\"><\/span>Top Statistics and Facts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>There are more than 600,000 registered gun owners in Tennessee.<\/li>\n<li>Tennessee is a stand your ground state, meaning you have no duty to retreat from a threat before using deadly force.<\/li>\n<li>In 2023, there were 1,148 homicides in Tennessee, with 81% involving firearms.<\/li>\n<li>Tennessee&#8217;s castle doctrine law allows homeowners to use deadly force to protect themselves and their property.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Does_the_Law_Say\"><\/span>What Does the Law Say?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In Tennessee, the law states that you have the right to defend yourself and your property from an intruder. However, the use of deadly force is only justified if the intruder poses an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury. The law also requires that you have a reasonable belief that the intruder intends to commit a felony on your property.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that the law doesn&#8217;t specifically mention trespassing. So, while you may have the right to use deadly force against an intruder, shooting someone for simply trespassing may not be legally justified.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"My_Personal_Experience\"><\/span>My Personal Experience<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A few years ago, I had a scary encounter with a trespasser on my property. It was late at night, and I heard noises outside my window. I grabbed my gun and went to investigate. I found a man rummaging through my trash cans. I confronted him and told him to leave, but he refused.<\/p>\n<p>I felt threatened and scared, so I held my gun out and told him I would shoot if he didn&#8217;t leave. He eventually left, but I was left wondering if I had done the right thing. I called the police, and they told me that I had the right to defend myself and my property, but only if the intruder posed an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back, I realize that I may have overreacted. While I had the legal right to defend myself, I could have handled the situation differently. I now understand the importance of staying calm and assessing the situation before resorting to deadly force.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expert_Opinion\"><\/span>Expert Opinion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To get a better understanding of Tennessee&#8217;s self-defense laws, I spoke with John Harris, a criminal defense attorney in Nashville. According to Harris, Tennessee&#8217;s self-defense laws are some of the most permissive in the country. However, the use of deadly force is only justified in certain situations, such as when you&#8217;re facing an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n<p>Harris also emphasized the importance of using good judgment when it comes to self-defense. Just because you have the legal right to use deadly force, doesn&#8217;t mean you should.
