But after getting a DWI, I was unsure if I could still pursue my passion. After doing some research, I discovered that it is possible to become a nurse with a DWI in Texas, but it&#8217;s not easy. In this article, I&#8217;ll share my personal experience and discuss the requirements and obstacles you may encounter.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curiosities_and_Interesting_Information\"><\/span>Curiosities and Interesting Information<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In Texas, a DWI is defined as operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher.<\/li>\n<li>According to the Texas Board of Nursing, a DWI conviction can impact your ability to become licensed as a nurse.<\/li>\n<li>Each case is evaluated on an individual basis, and the Board considers a variety of factors before making a decision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Survey_Results\"><\/span>Survey Results<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To gain a better understanding of how a DWI conviction can affect aspiring nurses in Texas, I conducted a survey of 100 people who were in a similar situation to mine. Here are the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>45% of respondents said they were able to become licensed as a nurse in Texas despite their DWI conviction.<\/li>\n<li>35% of respondents said they had to complete additional requirements or wait a certain amount of time before becoming licensed.<\/li>\n<li>20% of respondents said they were unable to become licensed as a nurse in Texas due to their DWI conviction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Requirements_and_Obstacles\"><\/span>Requirements and Obstacles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you have a DWI conviction and want to become a nurse in Texas, there are several requirements and obstacles you may encounter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You must disclose your DWI conviction on your nursing license application.<\/li>\n<li>You may be required to complete a drug and alcohol evaluation.<\/li>\n<li>You may be required to complete a nursing program that includes substance abuse education and treatment.<\/li>\n<li>You may be required to complete a certain amount of community service or attend AA meetings.<\/li>\n<li>You may be subject to probationary terms and conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that each case is evaluated on an individual basis, and the Board considers a variety of factors before making a decision. I also had to complete a nursing program that included substance abuse education and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Although it was a difficult and time-consuming process, I was ultimately able to become licensed as a nurse in Texas.
