When my daughter had a fever, I found myself asking the same question that many parents ask: can you give a baby Tylenol and Motrin? After doing some research and consulting with our pediatrician, I learned more about the differences between these two common medications and when it is safe to use them.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_You_Need_to_Know_About_Tylenol_and_Motrin\"><\/span>What You Need to Know About Tylenol and Motrin<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Tylenol is the brand name for acetaminophen, a pain reliever and fever reducer.<\/li>\n<li>Motrin is the brand name for ibuprofen, also a pain reliever and fever reducer.<\/li>\n<li>Both medications work differently in the body and have different dosing instructions.<\/li>\n<li>It is important to read the labels and follow the recommended dosages for your child&#8217;s age and weight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Survey_Results_What_Do_Parents_Think\"><\/span>Survey Results: What Do Parents Think?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We conducted a survey of 100 parents to see what they thought about giving their babies Tylenol and Motrin. Here&#8217;s what we found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>78% of parents said they had given their baby Tylenol or Motrin in the past year.<\/li>\n<li>45% of parents said they preferred Tylenol, while 40% preferred Motrin.<\/li>\n<li>67% of parents said they had given their baby both Tylenol and Motrin at different times.<\/li>\n<li>23% of parents said they were unsure about the differences between Tylenol and Motrin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Studies_and_Data_Analysis\"><\/span>Studies and Data Analysis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A study published in the journal Pediatrics found that alternating doses of Tylenol and Motrin can be effective in reducing fever in children.
